life as a debater

i was back from Malaysian Debate Open last night around midnight. it was truly another enlightening and fantastic experience! i am so glad that i went for this tournament. this round, my teammate was dearie Qian Yi, and the future politician, Lau. this is the first time we work together as a team, not even during training. (Lau lar, can go mamak wif juniors but dun want to join us for practice!)

so, on Friday night, Qian Yi bumped into my room. we were talking and talking till 230am or perhaps later! it has been a long time since we last talk and laugh till this late. it is always fun to have her as my roomie for any debate tourney.. :))

we had less than 3 hours of sleep, freshened up ourselves and headed to ktm station. took ktm, bus, and taxi.. and here we are, at MMU, Malacca!! a journey to Malacca took us almost 5 hours! sien..

to cut the story short, out of 6 rounds, we won 3, lost 3. was really disappointed in the beginning but then, gotta buck urself up and accept it! looking back, this tourney taught me A LOT! many extremes kinda debate. a near definition challenge, tautological case setup and lots more.. i get to see a glimpse of wat international debate tourney looks like. we had teams from tokyo (quite handsome), macau (super leng lui), indon, singapore. u get to see many things from different perspective.

of course, debating is not for nerds. we had social night at a club, championship dinner at a hotel, jonker walk etc etc. i skipped the clubbing night and went to sit beca with lee fang, dev and lau instead!! haha.. we walked all the way to jonker street, some lake area and all hunting for food. but it was about 12am that time, it became almost like a dead town in malacca. thank God for beca!! so the beca uncle bought us to some place for asam fish with nasi goreng! :))

that night was a happy night! lee fang, dev and jessie's team get to break into octo-finals! :)) later on, we were playing murderer and truth or dare till 4am.. taiko drove bk to kl at 430! unbelievable!

last day.. leefang's team was lovely! although they didnt manage to break into semi-finals, but it was a really good round!

during breaktime, we did many things. we had many murderer rounds that day!! so happy :)) the best round was with lau. all of us pakat and tricked him. we knew that he was the murderer from the start and yet he wannna pura-pura.. and also we watched southpark cartoon. not a very good cartoon thou.. it really corrrupted our mind, the effect is really instant! and not forgetting, the dare game.

i thoroughly enjoyed this MDO and yes, more to come soon, hopefully! :)) debate team is like another family now.. oh btw, i got the incredible 79 as my speaker score for one of my round! haha but then it's unacceptable since it's from an unexperienced adjudicator who doesnt know how long is reply speech. yet, i am still happy i have this 'record' hahahaha..
